Talking QR Codes

What are they?

If you haven't heard of them, you've definitely seen them around, on magazines, leaflets, tattooed...okay maybe not tattooed but you get our drift. QR codes, short for Quick Response codes, are simply 2D barcodes. What's cool about these barcodes is that they can pretty much hold any kind of information such as text, photos, URL links, or in our chosen method of usage...contact information instantly saved to your smart phone contacts list!

Why should I care?

Because it makes life simpler, saves you time and is virtually effortless to use. Why spend the time of writing the contact information of a venue when you can just whip out your smart phone and scan it quicker than taking someone's picture. You'll have the name defined with the phone number, email address and website all included and saved instantly!  That smart phone in your pocket whether be a iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S3 or a Blackberry is your QR Code Scanner. It would literally take you a few minutes to install the application that enables you to do this!

Okay, I'm sold, now what do I do?

Depending on your smart phone, just download and install the application recommended!

Step 1: Open your App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Samsung Galaxy) or App World (Blackberry) and search to download the QR Code Scanner application recommended below.

Step 2: Open the application and simply just point the scanner at the QR code of any individual listing you come across on My Metro Talk! Go ahead and try it out now by scanning "Mom's Food" below!

Note: Different apps have different distance recognition on how close or how far to hold the phone away from the code for instant scanning recognition. Don't try to position the edges or get too close, try it slightly far and move closer and you will recognize what distance works best for that  app.

Step 3: Just tap "Add Contact" and you are done!

Recommended Apps

You will find several free QR code readers by just typing QR Code Scanner, but we recommend the following:

  • iPhone

Search QR Code Scanner, we suggest you download the one by iHandy titled "QR Code Scanner". App icon appears like this:

  • Samsung Galaxy

We recommend you download the one titled "QR Droid". App icon appears like this:

Note: This appears to work better at a further distance, don't feel the need to zoom in too close to the QR code. Also be sure once you tap Add Contact, to also tap the + sign as illustrated in the below snap shot.

  • Blackberry

Typically the best rated scanner application is the "QR Code Scanner Pro". However at this given time, scanners on this particular smart phone device aren't functioning correctly on our site. Apologize for this inconvenience, we are just as bummed out as you are :( That's all there is to it! Congratulations on becoming a QR Code wizz! Now get to browsing our listings and begin adding your favorite places on My Metro Talk! :D
